Is there anything better than a picture book?
The feel of the pages in your hand, the use of color and various art forms, the funny, the sad, the dramatic, the unusual...
Everything about picture books just makes me so happy!
As a first grade teacher, there is nothing I love more than sitting down with my class, cracking open a picture book, and sharing an adventure.
There are so many reasons I became a teacher (let's be honest, what other professions consider a love for school supplies, smelly markers and stickers as a positive?). But after more than 15 years teaching, I have come to realize that one of the most important moments in the day comes when we simply read a story.
We sit on the rug, I look out at my class, see their eyes light up, they're rubbing their hands together in anticipation of today's adventure... there's nothing like it! These moments are the fuel that keep me going - that and 2 cups of coffee before that first bell.
About me:
I currently teach 1st Grade at a wonderful private school in Orange County, California. I have chosen to teach in private schools for the last 11 years because they give me the freedom and authority to teach what my kids need and want. I don't have to follow a district curriculum guideline. I don't use a basal reading series or anything like that. I am a reading workshop teacher. I am constantly searching for new literature to read to and suggest for my budding little readers. I plan to share my lessons, finds and ideas here!
